This trip has been a real eye opener when it comes to food and household products. I am so used to being able to order online or run over to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's to find clean, usable products. Once you get below Vegas, however,it's a different story. We've been in the Yuma area for weeks now and have a couple more weeks to go. Our best option for food and stuff is Walmart. I know, I know, don't hate me. It's out of desperation. We have spent waaaaay too much time trying to find clean food. Then we ran out of dish and laundry soap. That took even more time to find something that wasn't so over fragranced it would make me gag. You know that chemical smell that lingers on the dishes and your hands?

Frustrating trip to the "grocery" store

We went to a local grocery store in Yuma, spent some time and ended up

with 2 things in our cart. At Walmart, we were at least able to find some organic apple sauce, organic eggs (I know, again. It's probably fake feed lot organic, but...) and few other fairly clean items. Nearly everything we touched, commercial, had preservatives (sodium benzoate, bht, etc.), hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, junky oils like soy, corn and canola, artificial flavors and colors, polysorbates and other icky, non food chemicals. So my feeling is, WHY IN GAWD's NAME are my fellow citizens paying good money to help the chemical industries get rid of their wastes by dumping them into our foods, and consequently into our bodies? I have been studying the causes of cancer for decades and have come to the conclusion that the biggest culprit is chemicals. As more and more chemicals are introduced into the market, the incidences of cancers, many that used to be rare, keep rising. Coincidence? I think not. So, please, do a real girl a favor and stop supporting chemical dumping into human beings.
